Time capsules are containers filled with items of cultural significance and buried for discovery at a later date. Many cities and institutions have buried time capsules to preserve their history for future generations.

2. The Crypt of Civilization

Located at Oglethorpe University in Georgia, the Crypt of Civilization is considered one of the first modern time capsules. Sealed in 1940, it is designed to be opened in the year 8113.

3. The Westinghouse Time Capsules

Two time capsules were buried at the 1939 and 1964 New York World's Fairs by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. They are scheduled to be opened in 6939 and 8113, respectively.
